PIROEH (Belgian, b. 1998)
Is a Belgian artist whose work reflects a deep connection to emotion and creative exploration. After completing his studies at the Luca School of Arts in Ghent, he began to focus on abstract painting and graffiti, using these forms of expression as both a personal outlet and a means to explore new ideas. He lives in Antwerp but works in a studio outside the city, where he can immerse himself fully in his art.
Since graduating in 2021, Piroeh has gradually built a name for himself, showcasing his works in exhibitions both in Belgium and internationally. His solo shows, such as ‘FINE’ and ‘Why Does It Have to Make Sense’ at Black—Gallery in Antwerp, and ‘Beau Monde’ in St. Tropez, highlight his evolving practice. He has also been part of group exhibitions like ‘Whitewater’ in Mykonos and ‘Collusion’, held in New York City and Madrid alongside Nicolás Villamizar.
Central to Piroeh’s work is the concept of ‘swooning’, which refers to the state of being emotionally overwhelmed—almost to the point of fainting—by feelings of admiration, beauty, or amazement. This notion is visualized in his recurring motif of ‘the Swoon’, a figure that embodies the universal human experience of being captivated by intense emotions.
Piroeh’s art is characterized by its vibrant, energetic use of color, which conveys playfulness and emotional intensity. In contrast, his monochromatic works, such as his black-and-white and black-on-black series, draw viewers into a more tactile experience. These pieces come to life when observed from different angles, emphasizing movement and depth while inviting a personal connection with the artwork.
Through his work, Piroeh seeks to evoke the same sense of wonder and introspection that inspired his concept of ‘the Swoon’. His art is an invitation to pause, reflect, and connect with the emotions that make us human, creating a bridge between personal feelings and shared experiences.
